Watch for double o. Often misspelled as proff or prove.
Same family: prove, proven, proofreading, proofreader, evidence. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.
Where it comes from: “Proof” comes from Old French “preuve,” meaning a test or trial, which in turn comes from Latin “probare,” meaning ‘to test’ or ‘to approve.’ This is also the origin of related words like “prove” and “probable.”
