How to spell physically

Watch for double l, and an unstressed vowel that is hard to hear. Often misspelled as phisically or physicaly.

Same family: physic, physics, physician, physicality. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.

Where it comes from: “Physically” comes from the adjective “physical,” which traces back to the Greek word “physis,” meaning “nature.” Over time, its meaning shifted from ‘relating to nature’ to ‘relating to the body,’ which is how we most often use it today.
