Watch for double l, and an unstressed vowel that is hard to hear. Often misspelled as personnally or personaly.

Same family: personal, personality, impersonal, personnel. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.

Where it comes from: “Personally” comes from the noun “person,” which traces back to Latin persona, meaning a mask or character in a play. Over time it shifted from the idea of a theatrical role to mean an individual human being, and “personally” came to describe something done by that individual themselves.
