How to spell naturally

Watch for double l, and an unstressed vowel that is hard to hear. Often misspelled as naturalley or naturaly.

Same family: natural, unnatural, naturalness, nature. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.

Where it comes from: “Naturally” comes from the Latin word “natura,” meaning “birth” or “character,” which became “nature” in English. Over time, English added the endings -al and -ly to move from the noun “nature” to the adjective “natural” and then to the adverb “naturally.”
