Sounds like, but is not: write, rite. Same sound, different spelling and meaning.

Same family: rights, righted, righting, correct, amend. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.

Where it comes from: The verb “right” comes from Old English “riht,” meaning “just, good, or proper.” Over time, English speakers began to use it not only as a noun and adjective, but also as a verb meaning to “make something right” or “set it straight.”
