Often misspelled as whent or wentt.

Same family: go, going, gone, goes, traveler. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.

Where it comes from: “Went” is actually the old past tense of the verb “wend,” which originally meant ‘to turn’ or ‘to go.’ Over time, English speakers stopped using “wend” often, but kept its past tense form as the irregular past tense of “go.”
