Where it comes from: Practice comes from Medieval Latin 'practica' and Greek 'praktikos', meaning ‘concerned with action’—the same root that gives us 'practical' and 'practitioner'. In British English, 'practice' is usually the noun and 'practise' the verb, but in American English 'practice' is used for both.
