Watch for double e. Often misspelled as nead or ned.

Where it comes from: “Need” comes from Old English “nēod” or “nīed,” meaning ‘distress’ or ‘want.’ Over time, its meaning softened from a sense of urgent trouble to the everyday idea of simply requiring something.
