Watch for an unstressed vowel that is hard to hear. Often misspelled as langauge or languge.

Where it comes from: Language comes from Latin 'lingua', meaning 'tongue' or 'speech'. The same root also gave us words like 'linguistics' and even 'linguine', which was named because the pasta strands look like little tongues.
