Watch for an unstressed vowel that is hard to hear. Often misspelled as dun or don.

Same family: did, doing, does, redo. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.

Where it comes from: “Done” comes from Old English “don,” the past participle of the verb “dōn,” meaning “to do” or “to make.” Over centuries, English kept the short, simple form, so common phrases like “well done” and “I’m done” are actually using a very old word form.
