How to spell admission

Watch for double s, and an unstressed vowel that is hard to hear. Often misspelled as admissionn or admisson.
Same family: admit, admitted, admittance, submission, permission. If you can spell one, the shared part carries to the others.
Where it comes from: “Admission” comes from Latin ‘admissio,’ from ‘admittere’ meaning ‘to let in’ or ‘to grant access.’ Over time, English extended the meaning from simply ‘entering’ a place to also include the fee you pay to be allowed in.
